The unknown awareness of the month

So it is about half way through October. Most months have one or two designated 'awarenesses'. For example, October is breast cancer awareness month. Very important for everyone to have information about it brought to their attention and all, however, there is another awareness this month that I think is just as important. October is also domestic violence awareness month...now who knew that?

As I was working yesterday, I came across tons of products that have breast cancer awareness information on them, yoplait yogurt has the save lids to save lives, Pillsbury rolls of crescents had a send in the upc and help raise money for breast cancer research, and stuff like that. Not to dis on breast cancer research, but they still haven't found a cure for it but it takes center stage this month.

Domestic violence is a more prevalent issue in the world today, I think. However, people don't want to deal with it. It should be brought to everyone's attention. It is worse than breast cancer, cancer is an x-factor in life, it happens. Domestic violence is something that can be controlled. But it is one of those issues that people don't like because it may not affect them. 'Oh, I don't hit my wife (or girlfriend) so I don't have to worry about that.' It isn't in every home so it plays second fiddle to breast cancer. This subject should be brought up regularly this month. Campaigns should be made to raise money for women's protection centers, to Diana Peppler centers, etc.

By all means, please continue to support the research to prevent breast cancer, but also, please don't forget about domestic violence awareness month...that is something that can be controlled.
